The Goings On

Lots has been going on lately. Nothing earth shattering, or – depending on your point of view – not terribly interesting at all. But here we go. . .

As you know from Facebook, I went out the other night. Sounds small and mundane, I know but we just don't go out much. I was ready for a funkadelic like house party – why I don't know – but that's just where my head went. But when I got where I was going I was reminded: You are fifty and a lot of your friends are even older. There were two spots right together one with jazz – one where they were dancing. Well, those who were dancing were too young, had all the wrong music and well, it was a no go.

The jazz thing was where all of the interesting people were. I sat next to a couple who had escaped the war in Bosnia. Fascinating people. They spoke three languages fluently. Had great stories to tell. We talked all night (I peppered them with questions)

Finally when I shut up she asked me "what do you do for a living? I said: "I host a TV show. It's on the daytime though but since you work. . . "

She interrupted and said "You know I thought I knew you from somewhere and when I heard your voice I thought it was you but I figured you just wouldn't be sitting here in Phoenix." Then she stopped for a moment and said "you're funny."

I said, "Yea, it's a funny show. The people I see have hilarious stories."

"No," she said, "I mean YOU are funny. The things you say."

It might sound silly but I felt really jazzed by that. People usually say "Oh I never watch" or "Are those people real?" or "Those cases or crazy" or "Can I get a picture?" some say "You give great advice." but I rarely get "You're funny." I consider that such high praise. I suppose because I so love it when others make me laugh. Sometimes I don't think people get my sense of humor. You guys do but sometimes I think my best work -those things I say meant to amuse even in the midst of the madness – isn't clicking.

Well, I take that back. My best work is the moment of real advice I try to pull out for people at the end. But I'm just saying . . .

I did a fundraiser thing for the local elementary school. It went well. Met a lot of nice ladies. Donated books. Told them "you don't really have to want to read it – just buy it and use it as a paper weight if you want – the money is going to the school" The books sold out and some ladies hijacked me afterwards and took me out to a club.

Started a new series of paintings, I call them "Chaos to Order" Whether or not you will ever see them is still uncertain. So far all I have is "Chaos to 'what the heck????'"

I am enjoying Ruthie's new facebook page for My Mother's Rules. I think it is a great forum to talk about "working the rules." It's funny sometimes I get away from working them myself. Even though I wrote the book and lived the life and got the advice live and in person from Mom – sometimes I forget. Working them with you has gotten me back and helped me re-dedicate myself to some that I have fallen short on of late.

Ruthie, if you don't mind could you post the link to that page again here on this blog?

Boomy has been so Boomy of late I can't begin to tell you. I must say though Big E is really making a difference – I might even be so bold as to say I think Boomy is starting to get it.

I was talking to mom the other day. She said "So much of what people do goes unexamined. That's why so many people stay on stupid for so long."

I just love her.

Peace.

Hey Judge – I think you are funny too!! I am in an unusally "stinky" place right now with a lot going on. When I visit your website or your Facebook postings, I am looking for a chuckle … and invariably I find one. I'm having difficulty finding a job so I'm working on a fundraiser for the Women's Resource Center to kill some time, my marriage is in a smelly place, so I'm working on this nice fella that works at the gas station … he makes me smile and feel good. I hate my body, but I can't seem to muster up the energy to get my fat butt out for a run on the beach, but have absolutely no difficulties whatsoever finding my way to fridge every 30 minutes or so. And I'm just so incredibly BORED with HOME – ready to move somewhere else in the world.

SIGH … so why did I tell you all that? I don't know. But I "get you" … and you keep me smiling. So there.

    Have a good day.

    Good morning Judge Lynn,

So glad you and Big E went out for a night and had a good time.

Judge Lynn I know it's getting close to graduation for 17, I've got to ask, are you going to be the commencement speaker for his graduation class? That would be so cool. Maybe he wouldn't think so. I do. :)

Off to work. All of you, have a great day!

    Hi all

Judge Lynn, I find a lot of the stuff you say very funny. Sometimes I don't say anything because I'm generally meditating on what you said that was so funny. Because in all reality, there is a point behind it. Just like what Mom Dukes said about people being stuck on stupid. I was laughing so hard, but then I thought to myself…..she is right. Got to love both of you.

I'm loving the page on facebook that Ruthie did as well. We got to work these Rules together. I'm the 1st to admit that I'm not perfect, nor do I get everything right the 1st time. That's why I need help!

Boomy, Boomy, Boomy. Just wait, he's going to surprise you and Big E when he makes a total change!

Been up since 7am on my day off from school. Had to take my mom to the doctor. Now, I'm trying to do more homework. UGH!!!!!!

So ready for Spring Break!! CALAGON TAKE ME AWAY!!!!!!

    Have a great day everyone:)

P.S. Shadiesha, I know you ACED those exams.

    Good Morning All

Judge I saw a post that went out to get your groove this weekend , good for you and Big E . I wondered if folks let you have your peace and it seems so, which is good.

I went out myself this weekend, a aquaintence is running for the State Senate and he had a fundraiser and from there went to Oldies dance 1 st Friday of the month, had a good time.

My Great nephew turned 2 had a b-day party saturday that was busy.

Was very discplined this weekend and proud of myself for that.
and will continue that One Day At A Time.

Judge Lynn maybe next time you'LL get to the funkadelic party, you would enjoy First Fridays.

    Peace & Blessings

Here's the link to the My Mother's Rules facebook page :

There is also a discussion area (message board) on the group so we don't have to be limited to just the postings on the Wall if you want better space for discussions. Judge Lynn thanks for participating!!!

I think you're funny…here and on your show…I love it when you laugh at the litigants when they tell stupid stories of what they did or said…"the condoms were in the car when I bought it"..come on nowLOL

I love looking at art so I hope you make some you feel comfortable sharing with us.

I find myself quoting you on what questions should you ask yourself before you make a decision. But what I've found recently most people just want you to agree with them and keep it easy not actually make them put effort into it..when I ask I want real help and direction…sometimes I just need someone to tell me what to do and sometimes how to do it and I'll do it…its a waste of everyone's time to ask and ignore it. The last advice you gave me I was in a bad place and I instantly started thinking of why I can't–stopped myself and just did it…and it worked…its the initial having to force yourself that is hard..but worth it in the end.

Okay gotta go..I have a old dog who can't hear and she woke up acting lost like she doesn't know this place or me…she's from a puppy mill and is behaving like she thinks that she is back there…putting herself in small spaces barking and doing things she hasn't done since she arrived. She's been here since she was five and a half..she's 12 now. Odd how the brain works.

    Have a good day everyone!

    Hello everybody,
Judge lynn, like alot of people I think your funny, not just on the show, but on your recent video of one of the crew members, that was cute and funny. It's good to loosen up sometimes.
And JAZZ is really good, love it.

I'm with Yolonda, Boomy's gonna be alright.

As I mentioned to you before, I love the relationship between you and your mom. (Thinking about my mom.)

The sun is shining and it's 50 degrees, it's beautiful here in Liverpool.

    Good day to all.
